Former Arena Football League standout John Kaleo enters his second season at Iona as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Kaleo joined the Gaels last season after
a completing a successful 14-year career in the AFL including an Arena
Bowl Championship with the Tampa Bay Storm in 2003.
Kaleo passed for more than 35,000 yards and 581 touchdowns while completing 60 percent of his passing attempts playing for the Storm, St. Louis Stampede, and the Los Angeles Avengers. He was instrumental in developing game plans as his squads signal caller. He was also responsible for breaking down opponent game film throughout his career. He also saw time in the AFL in Albany, Cleveland, San Jose, New England, Austin and Columbus.
He was a two-year performer for his alma mater, Maryland after transferring from Montgomery College (Md.) after his sophomore year. As a senior at Maryland, he set single-season school records in passing yards (3,392), completions (286), attempts (482), total yards (3,472) as well as single-game touchdown passes with five. At Montgomery, he led his team to a 10-0 record as a sophomore, setting single-season and career records in every passing category. The NJCAA Hall of Famer was the 1990 Player of the Yearas well as First Team All-American.
