LAKE MERCER, NJ - The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing team’s took part in the 2012 MAAC Championships and finished with seven medals, including a Gold Medal finish by juniors Jennifer Kearns and Amanda Kenny.
The victory in the women’s pair race is the first gold medal to an Iona women’s boat since 1999, after completing the course in 8:28.9.
In the women’s novice eight, the Gaels finished with a bronze medal, finishing behind Marist and Fairfield. The eight for Iona consisted of freshmen Rebecca Silva, Amanda Boyle, Elizabeth Dellinger, Victoria Baio, Nicole Tobin and Sage, Lang, Cain and Urso.
On the men’s side, the Gaels took home a bronze medal in the varsity eight in both boats. In the varsity four, the Maroon & Gold captured a bronze, with other third place finishes in the lightweight four and novice four.
The varsity “A” boat finished with a time of 6:14.8, the boat consisted of, seniors Ryan Rourke, and Kyle Daly, junior Chrisanne Karcich, sophomore Chris Palma, Ernest Stinebrickner, Derek Krautkremer, Evan Johnson, Rich Buchheit and Greg Badura
The other varsity eight race, Iona also placed third and the boat consisted of freshmen Frederick Carter, Ryan Harding, Nicholas Adams, Thomas Baik, Nicholas Bortells, Matthew Buchanan, Robert Strobel, Badura, and Rourke.
In the men’s varsity four, the Gaels finished with a bronze in 6:58.0. The four members were Karcich, Palma, Stinebrickner, Krautkremer and Johnson.
The lightweight four was rowed by Karcich, Rourke, Daly, Bortells and Buchheit, and the team took second to Marist with a time of 6:59.3.
In the novice four, a third place finish was completed by Carter, Strobel, Harding, Palma and Balik.
