NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona College rowing head coach Thomas Scifres has announced the addition of former Gael Colleen Ryan as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs.  "Colleen has shown herself over four years of rowing at Iona to be one of the most dedicated individuals I have known in this sport," Scifres said.  "I know having her in a full time capacity will help lead our men's and women's teams to unseen heights as we strive to reach the top of the MAAC."

While a student at Iona, Ryan was a four-year member of the women's varsity team, and was named team captain in her junior and senior years.  Ryan was the recipient of the team's Student Athlete of the Year award in 2006, 2008, and 2009.  She was also a member of S.A.A.C. from 2006-2009.

While competing at Iona, Ryan helped lead the Women's Varsity 4+ to three consecutive first place finishes at the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championships.  Ryan continued rowing at the New York Athletic Club in Pelham, NY during the summers of 2008 and 2009.  She earned a bronze medal at the 2008 Elite Nationals and two bronze medals at the 2009 US Rowing Club National Championships.

Hailing from Orange County, NY, Ryan earned a B.S. in Childhood Education from Iona in 2009.
