NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's rowing team concluded its fall season at the Dowling College Alumni Cup Regatta and the Fall Metropolitan Regatta.  At the Dowling Cup, the women's team took home the Team Points Champion Title, the second time the Iona women have ever achieved this.

Head coach Thomas Scifres and assistant coach Colleen Ryan commented on the squad.  "We are very proud of this group; we have a tremendous group of freshmen that contribute to the team.  We believe these girls will significantly contribute to the future of the women's program."

The Women's Novice 8+ led by coxswain Angelique Blake and rowed by Elissa Nesmith, Amanda Kenny, Melissa French, Mallory Baker, Lindsey Mayfield, Jennifer Kearns, Martha Wislocki, and Michelle Morrison placed first in the event.  The Varsity 8+ led by coxswain Victoria Greenan also placed first in the event, beating Dowling College.  The 8 was rowed by Nesmith, Kayla Flaten, Kenny, Julianne Allen, Ashley Tomblin, Baker, French, and Morrison.

The Gaels hosted the Fall Metropolitan Regatta at Glen Island Park, with the women competing in four events.  The Novice 4+ A boat, coxed by Blake and stroked by Wislocki, Alicia Prigodich, Mayfield, and Kearns finished third in the first heat.  The Novice 4+ B boat, coxed by Cara Scriven and stroked by Danielle Klemonsky, Kristen Canada, Alyssa Orgera, and Christina Labby finished fourth in the second heat.

The Varsity 4+ posted a fourth place finish, led by Greenan and rowed by Nesmith, Flaten, Kenny, and Allen.  Iona's final event was the Varsity 8+ which, coxed by Greenan, and stroked by Nesmith, Kenny, French, Baker, Mayfield, Kearns, Wislocki, and Morrison, finished fourth.

"Fall Mets always attracts high profile schools such as Fordham and MAAC competitor Fairfield University.  We are going  to work hard over the winter and spring to get closer to our competition.  Many of the women raced multiple times during this race, but we saw strong, solid effort from everyone."
