BOSTON, MA – The Iona College men’s rowing team finished in 11th place with a time of 18:03.51 at the 47th Head of the Charles Regatta. The men’s collegiate four Iona crew consisted of seniors Ryan Rourke and Kyle Daly and sophomores Evan Johnson and coxswain Chrisanne Karcich.
“We had a tremendous row, passing several boats throughout the event,” said head coach Tom Scifres. “Chrisanne did a great job coxing a truly solid course,” Scifres exclaimed.
“I don’t think we have ever had such a motivated group of athletes who seek to do more. That is something special that I hope continues into our last two fall races and our long winter training to come,” said Scifres.
Senior Frank Petrucci and members of the New York Athletic Club took first in the men’s lightweight four, completing the course in 16:29.70. The boat was coached by former men's and women's rowing head coach and alum Kevin Murphy '85.
The Regatta also featured the Alumni Eight race. The Iona Team was represented by Steve Pascuzzi, John Yearwood, Evan Campanella, Jamie Hafer, Alex Wickers, John Boyd, Bryan McKeon, Peter D'Arcy, and Cox Michelle Steinberg.
Finishing off the event for Iona, men’s and women’s rowing assistant coach Colleen Ryan and the NYAC squad took 11th in the women’s championship four at 19:28.44.
“Coach Ryan has been pulling double duty coaching at Iona and then rowing with NYAC after only returning to training less than two months ago,” said Scifres. “Colleen is a real asset to our programs.”
