Dr. Ross Richard Fulco
Team Doctor

For over 25 years, Dr. Ross Richard Fulco served Iona College, caring for the school's athletics teams as well as the Christian Brothers Community.
A
Bronx native, Dr. Fulco began his medical career as an intern at New
Rochelle Hospital in 1959 and retired from Sound Shore Medical Center
in 1999. A graduate of Fordham Prep and Fordham University, he received
his medical degree from the University of Rome in 1958.
In
1971, Fulco became the team doctor for the men’s basketball team under
Head Coach and Director of Athletics Jim McDermott. He volunteered many
hours for the team and took excellent care of all the players. Much of
his time and services to the program was donated.
Dr. Fulco sat
on the team bench from 1971-1986 with Coaches McDermott, Gene Roberti,
Jim Valvano, Pat Kennedy and Gary Brokaw and continued working with the
basketball program until 1998. Fulco served as a liaison between the
doctors at New Rochelle Hospital and the student-athletes. He often met
the athletes at the hospital to help expedite the process when they
were injured or ill.
In addition, Dr. Fulco also cared for the
other athletic teams, the student in the dorms and was the doctor for
the Christian Brothers for 35 years.
