Joseph “JB” Buono

 Trainer / Coach

1985

Since 1960, Joseph “JB” Buono has served as the head athletic trainer at Iona College.

One of the most popular figures on the Iona College campus, “JB” was presented with an honorary degree from the College in 1977. Four years later, he was honored by the New York state legislature with a resolution commending him for his years at the school.

Buono served in World War II in the Armed Forces. Following his stint in the Army, he returned to athletics as a baseball trainer. He attended the Gus Mauch Baseball Training School for two seasons before going on to training posts with the Port Chester Clippers and later, the Scranton Minors. He was a trainer in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for 11 seasons.

In addition to his duties as Iona’s athletic trainer, Buono is still involved with his first love of baseball, serving as the Gaels’ first base coach.
