Iona College volleyball senior Colleen Genett earned the MAAC's Offensive Player of the Week honor for her performance in the Gaels' three-set sweep of Loyola on Friday night. Genett picked up the award for the first time in her career.
Genett had a dominating effort in the win on Friday night posting 16.5 points in the three-set win. She hit .667 with 15 kills on 21 attempts with just one error and added three assisted blocks and two digs. For Genett, the effort was one kill shy of her career-high and set an Iona single-match hitting percentage record with 20 or more attempts.
Genett became Iona's first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week since Rachelle Wilson earned the honor on Nov. 17, 2008 in the final week of the season.
The Gaels stand in second place all alone after two MAAC wins this weekend over Loyola and Saint Peter's with two matches to play. Iona completes the regular season on the road next weekend with matches at Siena and Rider before heading to the 2010 MAAC Championship at the Milk House in Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, FL from Nov. 18-20.
