STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEKLeonard Korir, Men's Cross Country

The Iona College men's cross country team finished second overall at the 2010 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Hammonassett Beach State Park.  Junior Leonard Korir finished first overall to win the individual title. With the second place finish the Gaels earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, IN on Nov. 22.

Korir cruised to a near eight second win finishing the 10k course in 29:36.9.  Korir is the third straight Iona harrier to win the individual championship at Regionals following Mohamed Khadraoui in 2008 and Ryan Sheridan in 2009.  After earning back-to-back individual titles for the first last year, the three straight wins extends the program record.

The men's cross country team earned its ninth straight automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Gaels compete at nationals in nine days in Terre Haute, IN.
