Stauble Named To All-Northeast Second Team
NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona Water Polo junior Marc Stauble was named to the CWPA All-Northeast Water Polo Conference Second Team on Thursday night, as voted on by division's six head coaches.
Stauble was a key force on both the offensive and defensive end for the Maroon and Gold throughout the season. He appeared in all 29 contests, ranking second on the team in shots attempted (120), goals (51), assists (19), and points (70). The junior led the Gaels with 41 steals and 40 kickouts drawn.
"Marc's had an amazing season," said Head Coach Brian Kelly. "He's a dynamic two way player with massive talent. The best part of Marc's game is that it's rare when he's not the hardest working player from either team at the end of a game."
Brown University goalie Luke Weiser took home the Player of the Year honor, along with Coach of the Year Felix Mercado. Princeton's Sean Duncan received Rookie of the Year honors.
The fifth seeded Maroon and Gold face off tonight against No. 20 St. Francis Brooklyn in the first round of the CWPA Playoffs. The Gaels will look to avenge their sudden-death overtime loss at the hands of the Terriers on November 2nd.
