Schultz Earns Fourth MAAC Offensive Player Of The Week Honor
NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona Water Polo junior Hannah Schultz earned her third consecutive and fourth overall Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon. In a 3-1 week for the Maroon & Gold, the Tinley Park, IL native continued her torrid pace, scoring 19 goals on 37 shots, drew eight kickouts, and collected four steals.
On Wednesday, Apr. 5, Schultz tied her season-high with seven goals on eight shots against St. Francis Brooklyn in a 15-7 Iona victory. She drew three exclusions and added a block in the contest.
In a loss to Marist in the Saturday morning contest, Schultz added another five goals on 14 shots and added two kickouts drawn. In the nightcap against Siena, the junior scored five goals on nine shots to go along with two kickouts drawn and two steals, leading the Gaels to a 13-4 victory.
In Iona's 9-6 win over the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday morning, Schultz scored two goals on six shots, while adding two steals and drawing two kickouts.
Schultz has scored 82 goals this season, surpassing her 2016 total of 81. She holds the second most goals in a season from her sophomore campaign when she netted 112 goals. For her career to-date, she has posted 275 goals, one shy of Cecilia Leonard for fourth all-time.
The Maroon & Gold complete their regular season on Saturday in a MAAC doubleheader at the Hynes Center tipping off at 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
