NORTH KINGSTON, RI – A pair of individuals stood out for the Maroon & Gold on day one of the Rhode Island Invitational held at the Quidnessett Golf Course. The Iona Golf team is in 13th place after day one of the gathering, shooting a collective 625 (+49).
Sophomore Devin Delisle shot a second round 71 (-1), tied for the third lowest of the round, and finished the day tied for 20th at 150 (+6). Senior Brian Fitzpatrick was steady for the Gaels, shooting a pair of 78s to finish day at tied for 52nd at 156 (+12).
After round one’s completion, the Gaels were 12th in the standing shooting 312 (+24). Sophomore Paolo Matti finished his first 18 at a three-over, 75. The 2016 MAAC Rookie of the Year shot -1 on the Par 3 while Fitzpatrick used sub-two shooting on the par fives to get early success.
Delisle shot a first round 79 (+7) before rebounding in round two. Rookie Matt Mirocco recorded an 83 (+11) in their opening round and followed it up with an 81 (+9).
Iona wraps up the tournament tomorrow morning down in North Kingston, RI. It’ll be the final competitive round before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships which begins on Friday, Apr. 21.
