LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – After day one of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championship, the Iona College golf program is tied for third with three other teams at 313 (+25). Siena College leads the field at 309 (+21), and Monmouth sits just above the Gaels in second at 312 (+24).
Senior Brian Fitzpatrick led the charge for Iona with a team-best 76 (+4). Tying for fifth on the individual leaderboard, he putted home two birdies and was even on the bag nine till a double-bogey on 18. Sophomore Paolo Matti, and the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, shot a 77 (+5), putting him 11th on the individual scoreboard.
Sophomore Devin Delisle started off the back nine with a birdie and ended tying for 19th with an 80 (+8). Teammate rookie Oisin Devereux shot an 80 as well and was top 10 on the leaderboard until an untimely +4 score on the 17th hole.
Rookie Matt Mirocco tied for 41st among the competitor, shooting an 86 (+14).
Iona led the way with 49 total team pars. The Maroon & Gold ranked seventh on the day in par three scoring (+10), sixth on the par fours (+28) & tied for fifth come the par fives (+1).
Mirocco tied for second in par three scoring with even scoring. Delisle and Fitzpatrick are amongst a clutter of student-athletes who played the long par fives at one below par.
Round two begins bright and early tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM.
