LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Iona College golf program is in seventh place after two days of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championship. The Gaels shot a second round 317 (+29), led by freshmen Matt Mirocco’s (+4).
Mirocco shot +2 on both the opening and closing nine and had two birdies on the fifth and sixteenth holes. Moving up seven spots on the individual leaderboard, he is currently tied for 34th on the individual leaderboard with a two round total of 162 (+18). Fellow rookie Oisin Devereux is the personal leader for the Maroon & Gold program; he is tied for 22nd overall, shooting a second round 78 (+6).
Senior Brian Fitzpatrick, is tied for 25th overall after shooting an 83 (+11) in round two. Rookie Devin Delisle mirrored his round one with another 80 (+8) and sophomore Paolo Matti paralleled the scorecard of Fitzpatrick, and is tied for 27th overall with Delisle.
Thus far through two rounds, Iona has shot 630 (+54). Siena College leads the event at 608 (+32), followed by Saint Peter’s (+39), Manhattan College (+40), and Rider (+42). Two Saints are atop the player leaderboard; Jake Holt maintains his grasp on the low score with a scorecard reading 145 (+1), and teammate Michael Christifulli moved up nine spots to second with a round two score of 69 (-3).
Delisle is one of just two golfers to record an eagle during the championship, and he ranks tied for third in par five scoring, shooting two-below par thus far.
The MAAC Championship concludes tomorrow morning at the Disney Magnolia Golf Course.
