HARRISON, NJ – On Wednesday, March 22 the New York Red Bulls II announced the signing of former Iona College soccer standout Jordan Scarlett to a USL Contract. The Red Bulls drafted Scarlett with the 61st pick in the third round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Back in December Scarlett attended the Red Bulls combine that was held at the club’s training facility in Whippany, NJ. On January 17, he became the first player to be drafted into the MLS since midfielder Ignacio Maganto was selected with the final pick of the first round by the LA Galaxy in 2015.
Scarlett was named to the All-MAAC First Team his senior season after being named to the All-MAAC Second Team as a junior. He played a career total of 1,750 minutes, tenth most in program history. Off the field, the Bronx, NY native is a three-time All-MAAC Academic Team selection.
Scarlett was the second MAAC student-athlete drafted in 2017; he joined Monmouth goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky, who was drafted in the second round. Scarlett is the 12th player in league history to be drafted.
Courtesy of the New York Red Bulls release, Head Coach John Wolyneic stated: “He has shown to be a guy that has a lot of talent playing for a local team, Iona College, and we’ve gotten to see him a few times. It’s great to get him with the team and hopefully we can get him moving towards an MLS contract for next year.”
