BRONX, NY - Fordham scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to upend the Iona College baseball team 8-7 this afternoon in non-conference action.
With one out and runners on the corner in the ninth inning, the Rams (25-23) rally started with a RBI single from Jason Lundy. After loading the bases with a hit by pitch, Fordham faced its final out trailing five runs after strikeout from Brian Goulard.
In the next at-bat Alvin Melendez tripled to clear the bases and bring the hosts to within 7-5. Melendez scored the fifth run of the inning on a single from Justin Bardwell before Mark Donadio two RBI double clinched the victory for the Rams. Fordham used five hits and seven runs in the final frame of the game to secure the win.
Matt Byrne led the Gaels (20-22) offense with four hits, two stolen bases, two runs scored and a RBI. Sean Breen added two hits and a pair of RBI while Jon Budesa notched two hits and two runs.
Looking ahead, the Maroon & Gold close out the regular season with a three-game series at Monmouth starting on Thursday.
