Four Gaels Earn All-MAAC Academic Team Honors

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2017 Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team.  The Iona College women’s basketball program has four women honored among the 52 total student-athletes that comprise the team.

Senior Karynda DuPree, junior Kristin Mahoney, sophomore Alexis Lewis, and freshman Amelia Motz are the Maroon & Gold named to the All-Academic Team.  Mahoney is now a two-time honoree while DuPree earns her first distinction in her final year with the program.  Lewis and Motz both are named to the team in their first year of eligibility.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Canisius College and Quinnipiac University led all schools with seven student-athletes each. Fairfield University and Niagara University each added six, while Marist College, Rider University, and Saint Peter’s University added five. Iona College and Siena College each added four student-athletes. Rounding out this year’s all-academic team is Manhattan College with one student-athlete.

The Gaels compete in the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals against No. 4 seed Siena at 2:30 PM on Saturday, Mar. 4.
