GAELS BLAST BRONCS, 85-60
The Maroon & Gold led 8-0 before Rider put its first points on the board at the 17:22 mark. An 11-0 run had Iona up 19-2, reached on a Milica Paligoric three-pointer. The Gaels' lead hovered between 13 and 17 points for the next several minutes before the squad scored 14 of 16 points over the final 3:15 of the half to lead 49-23 at the intermission.
Iona shot 52.5% from the floor in the first half and 43.8% in the game. The squad's largest lead was a 39-point advantage with as little as 6:22 left in the contest. The Gaels finished with a 53-45 edge in rebounds and a 10-4 advance in steals while committing a season-low eight turnovers.
Anna McLean led with 16 points, eight boards, and two blocks before a hit to the shoulder forced an early exit. Catherine Lutz had 12 points on 4-of-5 from three point range while Kristina Ford, Anda Ivkovic, and Thazina Cook each added ten. Marissa Flagg dealt a career-best eight assists.
Iona's bench contributed 35 points as head coach Anthony Bozzella used every available player, and 12 of the 14 participating Gaels reached the scoring column. "I was glad to get everyone in and see them having a great time because they all work so hard in practice," Bozzella reflected after the game.
The Maroon & Gold will strive to continue its pace when the team hosts Fairfield in the opening game of a double header on Feb. 1. Both the 5:00 pm women's game and the 7:00 men's game vs. Canisius will be televised through MAAC-TV on MSG network.
