Men's Rowing Picks up Gold, Silver in Spring Metropolitan Championships
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Men's Novice Four picked up a gold medal and the men's notice 8 grabbed a silver medal Saturday at the Spring Metropolitan Championships. This year the event had 15 schools compete and a record number of over 80 entries across 13 events. Because it is rowed on a tidal water way it can only race when the water level is high enough therefore teams have a hard finish time.
In the first heat, the men's Novice 4 “A” team beat out seven other teams to claim gold with a time of 7:47.45. The team consisted of Chris Capozzola, Mike Pellegrino, Tim Strowbridge, Thomas Hoehamnn and Matt Laliberte. The “B” squad, made up of Tyler Reynolds, Justin Brownell, Rocco Borghetti, Eric Berger and Killian Kane placed seventh in the race with a time of 8:29.35.
The Men's Varsity 8 was able to qualify for the grand final. In the qualifier, the team made up of Bianca Mesqueue, Patrick Drummond, Vito Roca, Christian Casrstensen, Abraham Bluestone, Steven Quirino, Chad Doria, John Hidalgo, and Brad Wheaton finished in second in 6:49.15. In the grand final, the team finished in fourth place with a time of 7:21.41.
Next up for the Gaels is the Dad Vail Regatta, Iona's Championship race in Philadelphia. They will race a novice 8, varsity 4 and varsity lightweight 8.
