Iona Rowing Participates In ALS Rally
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Members of the Iona College men’s and women’s rowing team volunteered at Iona’s 2016 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge event held on campus on Friday, Sept. 2. The event was sponsored by the Tara Knights Society and Iona College Residential Life.
The founder of the ALS ice bucket challenge and Iona College alum Pat Quinn attended the event and shared his personal experience with ALS. He exclaimed how the Iona College community has helped him overcome the struggles with the disease.
In his remarks to the large gathering, Pat emphasized the importance and enjoyment of his four years being a Gael. He stated that he was grateful at how many people came to the event to support the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Following his speech, the crowd participated in the tradition of standing together and dumping buckets of ice water on themselves in honor for those who have and continue to suffer from the disease.
Elise Tarrant, coxswain for the women’s rowing team, had this to say about the event: “Pat Quinn delivered a very moving and inspirational speech. This event helped us understand a deeper meaning of ALS and how communities and support can truly make a deep impact on others. I found the event truly inspirational and motivating.”
