PHILADELPHIA, PA —The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing teams continued their fall campaigns on Saturday by competing on the scenic 4,025 meter course at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Gaels entered seven boats in varsity and frosh/novice events.
The first race of the day was the Mens Championship Fours with Coxswain. Iona placed 19th out of 38 boats with a finish time of 16:52.993. The winning time was 14:35.595 for the University of Pennsylvania.
Next to race were the Mens and Womens College Frosh/Novice Eights. Iona entered two boats in each event.
In a field of 36 boats, Iona’s mens frosh/novice A boat placed 21st with a time of 16:56.220, and the frosh/novice B boat placed 35th with a time of 20:20.421. The winning time was 13:29.647 for Princeton University.
Out of 41 entries, Iona’s womens frosh/novice A boat placed 36th with a time of 21:19.648, and the frosh/novice B boat placed 40th with a time of 23:40.463. The winning time was 16:13.863 for St. Joseph’s University.
The last events of the day for Iona were the Mens and Womens Club Championship Eights.
Out of 48 entries, the Iona mens club champ eight placed 37th with a time of 15:46.536. The winning time was 13:21.424 for the University of Pennsylvania.
In a field of 56 boats, the Iona womens club champ eight placed 40th with a time of 18:26.227. The winning time was 15:18.750 for the University of Pennsylvania.
The Gaels will compete at home on Saturday, November 5th at noon at the Fall Metropolitan Championships.
