NEW ROCHELLE, NY - On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Iona College softball team expressed gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who serve the United States of America.  The Gaels thought out and created thank you cards to give and honor the brave heroes.

The student-athletes found it extremely fitting to give back to these individuals who sacrifice so much for our safety and freedom.  A little goes a long way when paying respect to those who wear the uniform proudly. With the thank you cards, the softball program was hoping to bring some happiness and express how much their service is valued.

Senior Katie Newton has an emotional connection to the military, providing extra meaning to this particular activity: "It means a lot to me making cards for those who serve our country. Both my Uncle and Grandpa served, so it was special to write to those like them, other heroes. I hope our words of encouragement are able to bring a smile to their faces and make a difference."

From the Iona softball team and the rest of the community, thank you to the current active service men, women and veterans for protecting America.
