The Iona College Goal Club hosted a men's and women's basketball reception at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle on Tuesday, May 24. Head Coach Anthony Bozzella and second year Head Coach Timothy Cluess spoke to a roomful of supporters on the state of their respective teams and their outlook on the upcoming 2011-12 season.

The coaches gave a sneak peak on their upcoming schedules, progress of the returning players and the incoming recruiting classes.

The Men's program completed the 2010-11 campaign with a 25-12 overall record after falling to Santa Clara in the Postseason Tournament championship game.  The squad set school records for games played, field goals, field goal attempts, three-point field goals, three-point field goal attempts, points scored, rebounds, assists, least turnovers per game and best assist-to-turnover ratio.  Iona also recorded its second highest assist pear game total and third best steal total in school history.  On the women's side this season had its ups and downs, but the Gaels achieved a lot to be proud of.  Iona earned a first-round bye in the MAAC Tournament for the sixth year in a row.  The Gaels had two All-MAAC honorees: junior forward Kristina Ford and senior forward Anda Ivkovic.  Six players earned recognition on the MAAC All-Academic Team: Suzi Fregosi, Catherine Lutz, Robin Felder, Milica Paligoric, Haley D'Angelo, and Jessica Scannell.

The Iona College athletic department thanks all of those that attended the event for their tremendous support of the Gaels. If you're interested in participating in events like these, consider joining the Iona Goal Club. For more information contact William Montanaro at 914-633-2071 or
