Junior Hollie Rowland finished third in the highly contested NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Buffalo this past weekend. Rowland’s 20:40.2 mark gave the Iona College women’s cross-country team an eighth place finish, highest seeding amongst the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
With her 6k time and third place All-Region performance, Rowland qualifies individual for the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute on Nov. 21. She finished just over a second behind the No. 2 performer from Syracuse, Lauren Penny.
In her previous 6K victory at the MAAC Championship, Rowland's time of 20:44.7 shattered the MAAC Championship 6k mark at Van Cortlandt Park by 41.1 seconds. She broke former Iona standout Emmily Chelanga's mark of 21:26.8 set in 2003.
