JERSEY CITY, NJ - Iona College volleyball sophomore Alicja Pawelec and freshman Catrina Warren were named All-MAAC for their performance during the 2011 campaign. It was announced at the league's annual Championship Banquet held this year at Saint Peter's College.

Pawelec was named to the All-MAAC Second Team. She was Iona's team leader and No. 2 in the MAAC averaging 3.72 kills per game. She was also second with an average of 4.35 points per set. Pawelec's 37 total aces ranked fourth.

Warren took the MAAC by storm in her freshman campaign. She was named to both the All-MAAC Second Team and the conference's inaugural All-Rookie team. Warren finished first in the MAAC in blocks, averaging 1.06 per set in all games and 1.17 during MAAC contests. Her .314 overall hitting percentage ranked tied for second, a number which improved to .322 in MAAC contests. Warren also ranked 10th overall with 3.48 points per set, matching the second highest performance for a MAAC rookie.

In addition, Pawelec headlined six Gaels on the All-Academic team. To be eligible, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. With five rookies on the roster not eligible, six of Iona's eight eligible performers held a GPA of 3.20 or highest. Seniors Molly O'Shea and Nicole Tamburri joined junior Theresa Harvey and sophomores Ellen Carberry and Madisyn Spence on the All-Academic squad.

Iona completed its first season under head coach Jon Killingbeck with a 9-9 MAAC record. The young Gael squad featuring nine freshmen and sophomores, finished tied for sixth place in the standings, but just a single win from a MAAC Championship berth.
