BUFFALO, NY - The 2012 MAAC Swimming and diving Championships have concluded as the Iona College women’s team finished fourth with 395 points, while the men came in fifth with 305 points.

In the final day of competition, two more Iona records were snapped, as junior Chris Yacobacci took first in the men’s 200-Breaststoke with a time of 2:00.30 and qualified for ECAC’s. The other Iona record that was broke on the final day was the women’s 400-Free relay.

The Gaels took second in the event as seniors Mackenzie Mone and Jamie Manser along with junior Theresa Harvey and sophomore Kerri-Anne Dodenhoff finished in a time of 3:29.61 also an ECAC qualifier.

In the men’s 400-Free, the Gaels took second as Yacobacci, senior Cameron Hudson, and sophomores Justin Grigull and Ryan Bacci completed the relay in 3:05.64.

In other event, junior Kara Nowakowski took 10th in the women’s 1650-Free, sophomore Maria Skeivys took 12th in the 200-Backstroke and Harvey took fourth in the 100-Free with a time of 52.22. Mone finished right behind Harvey in the 100-Free at 53.09, both qualifying for ECAC’s.

In the men’s 100-Free, sophomore Justin Grigull took third completing the race in 45.96.

Sophomore Sophia Hyokyvaara took 10th in the 200-Breastroke with a time of 2:27.95.  Sophomore Nick Kotonias took ninth in the 200-Butterfly at 1:55.54.

The Gaels will now compete in the ECAC Championships next weekend at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
